Often people were adopted within the extended family in informal arrangements.
Maybe there was still contact with his mother?

Kirsty,

There were no formal adoptions till around 1926........meaning no official records.

Hi,

One the 1911 census I have foundmy great grandfather as being adopted.

Does anyone know anything or have any advice on searching for information on adopted people?

I have managed to get a birth cert which only has his mum on, but my nanny would like to know info on why he was adopted etc, is it possible to get this infomation??

Thanks

Kirsty :-)
