One of the ancestry records after his death says his mother is Alice. Also says no widow or children, so maybe he never married.

His service records have no indication that he was married and there's a receipt dated 1919 for his medals that were presented to his father Frederick. Surely if he was married the medals would be given to his wife?

It is the right family but I was following up the lead on the CWGC of a wife - maybe the CWGC record is incorrect.

Having looked through his records too, I'd say there was no indication that he was married. Could the confusion be because his mother was Mrs Alice Fussell?

His service records also indicate no widow, no children, 1 brother Frederick, 1 sister Amy Parkhurst, 1 half sister Alice Merchant, nephews Eddy, Bertie, Ernie Merchant, niece Muriel Parkhurst

Not sure who Muriel Parkhurst's parents are - that's a lead I will now track down.

Did have the half sister after all.
