Potty

Potty Report 30 Oct 2011 14:57

The same post IS on Find Ancestors - I have just posted to it asking Michele to delete it as it duplicated on this board!

jax

jax Report 31 Oct 2011 15:49

Well it is obvious that GR do not read the posts

As you had the two posts someone decided to report your post on this board after you had had many replies instead of the one on Find ancestors with no real replies.

I did ask GR to reinstate it but......No

Message to the person who reported Micheles thread......WHY???

InspectorGreenPen

InspectorGreenPen Report 31 Oct 2011 17:19

It was a duplicate thread. Not allowed....! Unfortunately, with hindsight, it seems the member reporting it chose the wrong one.

jax

jax Report 31 Oct 2011 17:35

Why did GR not read my comment at the bottom of the thread, that the poster had deleted the other one anyway???

Because they just could'nt be bothered??

What gives other members the right to report a thread after shed loads of info has been given? I could understand it if there was nothing on the thread....but then just a note to say it was a duplicate is enough anyway

InspectorGreenPen

InspectorGreenPen Report 31 Oct 2011 17:58

What gives then the right? The thread was a duplicate so was a candidate for removal. Like it or not, that's the way reporting works.

Nor is it a question of GR not being bothered, they don't moderate so would have no reason to read any other comments or subsequent postings.

patchem

patchem Report 31 Oct 2011 18:15

'The thread was a duplicate and a candidate for removal'
People make mistakes, do not mean to duplicate, do not realise it is not allowed, and cannot find where they have posted.
Once the helpers knew it was a duplicate they can just stick to the most advanced thread.
The person chose to report a very advanced thread when there was lots of information on it, when they could have just asked the person to delete the other one, and given them the chance to do so.
Sorry, but they are just being over-the-top officious

jax

jax Report 31 Oct 2011 18:28

No they do not moderate, but they must read some otherwise they would not reinstate them.

The poster had been advised to delete the other thread...which she did, as there was nothing on it that was of any use anyway.

The people who help on this site are normally not that stupid as to continue on a thread that has already been mentioned as a duplicate.

brummiejan Report 31 Oct 2011 18:29

I totally agree with Patchem. Once a duplicate is spotted - usually very quickly - a comment to that effect is sufficient to stop helpers wasting their time. It is very high-handed to request a review for something so trivial. And the person in question has really messed up!
Hopefully it will be re-instated.

jax Report 31 Oct 2011 18:31

Well it has been whooshed Jan...so I doubt it now unless Michele contacts them.

Edit- When you start helping on the look up threads IGP then maybe you can comment on when and why a thread can be reported...or are you the one reporting them?

Kense

Kense Report 31 Oct 2011 19:30

Surely if it was a thread asking for look ups then there were two reasons for it being deleted. Why didn't helpers help on the Find Ancestors board thread and tell Michele to delete the one on this board?

As for asking posters to delete duplicate threads that doesn't usually work and adding the 'please delete' message to a thread can make that more prominent than the main thread.

Just in case you are suspicious, no I didn't report it, as I agree it does seem high handed to do so. I would however like to see a simpler and kinder method of getting duplicate threads deleted or merged and wrong board threads moved.

jax

jax Report 31 Oct 2011 19:42

Yes it was also on the wrong board....but as we all know once someone asks a question it is quickly replied to.

The infomation asked for was soon found by several members on this board and the thread on find acestors was soon spotted by Potty who asked Michele to delete, before anyone wasted any time duplicating the same info

The actual reporting of this particular thread did not take place until everything was posted....so just hope Michele took a note of what she had been given

Potty

Potty Report 1 Nov 2011 11:28

It wasn't me who reported it!

KenSe, I asked Michele to delete the other thread as it had no posts whereas the one on this board did have replies.

As for not mentioning duplicate posts, if we don't bring them to people's attention, helpers could waste their time searching for what has already been found.

Michele obviously made a mistake and it is a great shame that somebody reported the thread and an even greater one that GR deleted it.

InspectorGreenPen

InspectorGreenPen Report 1 Nov 2011 14:10

No, Jax, I am not reporting them. I only consider reporting postings which contain deliberate personal abuse. Any other reasons I might make a comment on the thread that the person should consider amending or deleting and leave it at that.

For those who are not already aware, as far as I am aware the main reasons for reporting a thread or posting might be as follows:-

1. Hateful or abusive comment, causing distress to another member
2. Duplicate Thread
3. Data Protection issue such as disclosing personal information
4. Other, for example blatantly ignoring the site terms of use.

jax

jax Report 3 Nov 2011 23:50

This thread was started Karen when Michele still had the two threads.

Michele deleted the one with very little on and I was hoping that GR would read my comments not to remove the other....but they did not

I only added to this when I saw that the thread had been removed

This is nothing to do with Michele making a mistake never to return because she did when she realised where she had posted.

Also she is not that new to the boards with 137 posts
