Hello, Can anyone help? Looking for any leads on my g-grandmother.
Her name was Daisy Brooks born 16/5/1892 to George Brooks and Sarah Sell or Lell in Saffron Waldren, Essex. Eventually found a George born 1870 with the same occupation Farm Labourer but that is all. No Marriage or details on a census of them being married/together.

If anyone can help? Thank you
Alison

George Brooks was baptised at St Mary the Virgin, Newport on 28th February 1847, the son of William and Keziah Brooks. William was a labourer.

Getting confused, the census' have George born around 1843, I have found another george brooks born abt 1846 living next door to William and Keziah on the 1871 census.

Which doesn't look like it matches.

Would they loose 4 years?

Kense Report 6 Nov 2011 17:10

I can't see another George Brooks baptised at Newport around 1843. There is a William son of William & Keziah baptised May 26th 1844.

If you get the marriage certificate it will have George's Father's name on it.
It saves confusion and speculation.
Baptism can occur several years after birth (but not before)
George's birth years in the censuses from 1851 to 1901 range from 1843 (so could be 1842) to 1847.

Kense Report 6 Nov 2011 19:26

In the 1851 census his age is given as 4 which is probably the most accurate and ties in well with the above baptism date.

Unfortunately SEAX haven't yet digitised the baptisms for Newport beyond 1848 nor the Marriages beyond 1837. If they had the marriage data then you could get the same information that is on a certificate for £5, (plus access to all the other Essex Parish data for a day).

Hello, I have since spoken to my Grandfather to see if he remembers anything from what my nan would have spoken of.

And can confirm the Daisy at 18yrs living with Albert Brooks on the 1911 Census was her brother. G'dad said there was talk of a relative being a head porter at St Thomas'Hospital which goes with this Albert.
This Albert is also on the records as the son of George so you are right.
So, I'll look into William and Kezia.

Where do I get the marriage information for £5? I thought the only way was to apply for copy M/Certificate which costs more then £5.

Thank you again.

You cant buy any cert for £5 the best place it to get it from www.gro.gov.uk costs £9.25 each,

Some local registers offices will also supply at about the same price but the GRO ref isnt any use to them as its the GRO,s own record only

The marriage data for Newport post 1837 is not yet on line at SEAX. When it is you will be able to see the parish records for church marriages in Newport for a subscription to SEAX (which is run by the Essex Record Office). A day's subscription costs £5. The information on the parish record (post 1837) is just the same as the marriage data on a certificate.

It looks like William Brooks and Kezia Smith were married in the third quarter of 1837 in the Saffron Walden district.

On your other thread someone posted the 1911 & i posted the 1881 & both of them have Albert on there so you could see that it was her brother that Daisy was with

& Albert on the 1881 was with his Dad George

I don't think SEAX stands for anything exactly, just something like Search Essex Archives.

The site is accessed by thie link below and you need to register with them. You can search the site for free but have to subscribe to view the records that they have online.
