Shirley~I,m getting the hang of it Report 20 Nov 2011 18:27

I have FTM 2006 on my PC and like the program OH has asked me if i would like to upgrade it as part of my Xmas pressie and it does appeal BUT would I need the full new 2012 program or the upgrade edition that i have seen advertised.

I dont want to tell him to get the wrong one and waste his money

Would be grateful for any advice please

Shirley,

Not sure whether the 2012 upgrade edition would upgrade the 2006 edition.

Suggestion, contact these people who advertise the 2012 upgrade ediition and ask them:

Yes, you only need the upgrade program. Cost is around £19.95 with 1 month Ancestry essentials. The program will automatically convert your data from FTM 2006

All versions of FTM 2012 contain exactly the same software. The only difference in the various packages is the Ancestry sub that comes bundled with it.

Hello Shirley

I can only offer advice on my experience.

Earlier this year i purchased FTM 2011 version, and like you i had the 2006 version.

The 2011 i now have is a completely different programme to that of the 2006, until you mentioned the word "upgrade" i had never given it a thought, but i have just looked the installation CD that was sent and it does say 2011 upgrade,so you are probably thinking, is it just going to upgrade the 2006,as i would have done.If i had noticed it said upgrade i would probably asking the same question, it does seem confusing when they talk about upgrade

I still have the 2006 FTM on my computer,as it was last time i used it

Hope this helps

George

If you shop at Tesco....

Shirley- you can get FTM 2012 here for £19 worth of Clubcard points and it includes 6 months of Ancestry Premium Membership. From memory when I moved from 2010 to 2011 they added the membership onto your current membership so you get another 6 months?

I get mine from these people as they are fairly local to me so I can collect.

The upgrade is in fact the full version, so even if you don't have an older version on your pc/laptop it will still work. If you think about it, it has to as if ever you need to reinstall for some reason you may not have the older cd's available any more

Hi. The upgrade to 2012 does work with 2006, I have just put it on my machine. It takes a bit of getting used to but am getting there. I hope you enjoy using it.

Rollo, I have never heard of "Gramps' so I took a quick look at your link. Any comments on how you find it?

Shirley, I have put FTM 2012 on my Christmas list. My Ancestry subscription has just run out so I'm looking forward to getting access again!!
