Hi

Can anyone help please? I'm looking for Edward James Boxall born 1896 in St Pancras. He does appear on the 1911 and I'm assuming he's on a ship but I'm unable to work out which one. He's a "boy RMB".

Any help appreciated.

RMB is Royal Marine Barracks, at Eastney, which I think is still there.

Wow, thanks to all who helped. I'd found him on the census, and assumed it was something to do with the RN.

Can someone please tell me how you found out where it was (RMB) and where the information came from on the Royal Medal Roll?

I've had similar problems when I've found someone on a Union Workhouse - they're listed as inmate and it's pretty obvious the type of establishment, but even when I've pressed "next" numerous times, it doesn't always say where it is.

Thanks again

How are you accessing the census? The FMP site has the name of the institution on the transcription.

I used to live near Portsmouth, so I knew what RMB was.

The 1911 census is individual households, not an enumerator's transcribed list, so I'm not sure whether you can go from one page to the next, like you can on all the earlier ones.

Yes, you can press previous and next on the 1911 census. If I click on enumerator's summary (which might have given me the info), I get an error message.

What's the FMP site? I access by clicking on the Search Records tab and clicking 1911 ... isn't that what everyone else does? :-0

His service records are here - it costs £3-50 to download http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/documentsonline/browse-refine.asp?CatID=36&searchType=browserefine&pagenumber=1&query=*&queryType=1

If he was still a musician in WW1 , he would be a stretcher bearer during the conflict not a combatant
