Whenever you close your browser, switch off or power down your computer you are automatically logged off the site, so to say you have never logged out is probably not quite correct.

What is actually happening is that your PC is automatically logging you in
whenever you click on your GR icon or bookmark, giving the impression that you have never logged out.

However, for this to happen, as far as I am aware, two conditions need to be met:-

1. You need to click the box on GR which says "Remember me?"

2. You also need to ensure that your GR password is saved in your browser and not deleted by any clean up software.

If you install antivirus software or other cleanup software, CCleaner for example, then it is very likely that your saved passwords are being deleted each time you run it. Cookies which remember your preferences can also be deleted as well by these programs.

There will be a setting somewhere in your av which you need to untick so that saved passwords are not deleted. Some packages also allow you to create a whitelist to preserve cookies for the sites you visit regularly.

Occasionally a site will change the url of a webpage for technical reasons. If this is a page that you have bookmarked it is possible that your bookmark will no longer work. Delete it and recreate it and all will be ok.

I just hit back button, or refresh

I think as Flick says, we've all been dealing with this problem for so long that we have all found our own solutions to it!

and

there have also been several other threads offering possible solutions over the past several months.

Sorry - I had a fit of shyness and deleted!

All I said was that I usually found just refreshing the page worked for me.

I have no option but to log in everyday since I changed from Norton to the free antivirus that came with my provider.
I do have GR as one of my favorites though and have never been logged out whilst using the site which is at least 12 hours every day

Does anyone else use virgin?

I have never logged out since the day I joined.

That hasn't prevented the error messages from proliferating.............

I think you'll find that all experienced GR users are ahead of you on this one.........

I don't think it's a question of no one bothering to try it, just that a lot of us have been doing it for months if not over a year...though I am sure it will be useful advice for newbies.

I keep GR in my favourites and use that link to enter the site. I don't have to actually log on each time.

The error message only appears everytime GR does some tech work on the site.

All I do is click on the GR logo which appears above the error message. This opens the site. I then add this my favourites again overriding the link that is already there. (It asks you and I click on yes).

This continues to work fine until the next tech modification.

I use IE as my browser - not sure how it works with others like Google Chrome or FireFox etc

Hope others will find tip this useful :-) :-) :-)
