Obtaining a recent birth certificate without a dob

Hi,

I am trying to obtain a birth certificate for a person born in 1980 but I do not have an exact date of birth. I do have the volume and page reference numbers, but the GRO site requires a date of birth as well. I don't have this and have no way of finding it without the certificate so am a bit stuck.

Is there any way I can get my hands on a certificate from 1980 without an exact dob?

You might need to give them a ring and ask if they can help

If you have all the other details such as ref and parents Im sure they will be able to help

Found it! Inputting 01/01/1980 as the dob alongside the other info I had and the GRO searched and found the correct certificate.

Just about to say that, but you got there first....!

The same applies for any cert where you don't have the GRO Ref. Just put 01/01yyyy as the dob plus as much info as you know to be correct and they will search for three years - yyyy and one either side. They issue the first cert that matches the info you have provided, and stop looking. Costs you nothing if they can't find a match.

Delivery can take up to 28 days, rather then the usual week.

Just in case I need it for future birth certificate orders....

What do you need to enter if you dont have the parents full names as I see there is a * next to these boxes meaning that you have to complete it?

Then I'll book mark this thread or Im bound to forget!

JUST A THOUGHT ARE YOU RELATED TO THE PERSON,
I TRIED A COUPLE OF YEARS AGO TO GET ONE FOR A FAMILY I WAS HELPING AND WAS TOLD
NEXT OF KIN ONLY DUE TO DATE OF BIRTH RECENT
AND IDENTITY THEFT
