I bought FTM 2012 & put it in the CD thing (you can tell I'm technically minded!!) but lo & behold it comes up saying something about fatal error & not installed. I tried 6 times & kept getting the same message.

My question is - if I put it on my sons laptop but use my laptop on that other site to put things on my Anc es try tree will it update on the FTM on my sons laptop? or will I have to use the boys laptop all the time (which won't go down too well!)
Many thanks.

I think I would query it back to where you bought the FTM in the first place. Perhaps its a corrupted copy you never know.

I have FTM too but am not aware if it updates from an Ancestry tree

Assuming your cd isn't damaged, there have been some reported problems with AV software interfering with the install and causing it to fail. Norton has been mentioned as one of them.

Try Googling

ftm 2012 fatal error on install

for some possible solutions.

Latest versions of FTM can be set to sync with Ancestry, so in theory you can access and update from anywhere in the world. However I haven't tried this yet - on my to do list - so can't speak from experience.
