June,

Do the records you have naming some of the ships he was on, have his Discharge no. on? This will start with R followed by six numbers. If you have this, then you have a start for your research.

Christine.

Thank you for the info. I will contact Southampton on Monday as that seems a good place to start!! I will wait and see about Newfoundland.!!

There is a Maritime Museum in Liverpool with good data base.

Merchant Navy records used to be kept at The Register of Seamen and Shipping in Cardiff, but I understand that they were farmed out to Newfoundland Canada dont know why. I cannot recall the adress and cantact information at the moment. I will in the next few days find the information for you and maybe someone else will have enlightened you beforehand.

I have had no success in trying to find records of my father in law whilst he was in the Merchant Navy. I have searched on National Archives, and Find my past records....all to no avail. Have you any ideas where else I could search.....or even write to . He was in the MN from1932 to 1948 and we have records of what ships he was on....well some of them.
His name was John Jarmanb1913,d1992., in Newcastle on Tyne.
Any ideas would be appreciated.
Thanks, June Jarman.
