Yes!!!. Thank you so very much everyone, especially, ann now annielaurie. Everything I needed is on these discharge papers. How on earth I missed them i dont know.. I honestly think that because one of his sons was called George H Deakes I thought they were for him, I know I have come across them. Father given as next of kin, Aaron Deakes. once again thank you all so much. :-D :-D :-D

I believe the children stayed in India. The youngest Ethel died 1900 same year as her mother, and I have found marriages in India for the other three children. George Deakes married my Grandmother in 1912 she was 17 he was according to transcript 36, but was really more like 40, she was pregnant at the time. I know where they both were up until Georges death in 1945 as a civillian POW in Singapore. I am trying to find some way of establishing who Georges father was, and hoped thier marriage would do this. but it only gives thier fathers initial.. I know my Grans is right but my problem is with Georges father.. this is complicated. I am as certain as I can be that George was actually born a Hughes, his mother married Aaron Deakes when he was about a year old. the only birth for a George Deakes is the son of Aarons brother Samuel and I have traced him and his marriage, so I know hes not my George. When I say who his father was I mean who George thought it was. The marriage to my grandmother says its H Deakes.( not right). Im hopeing it should be A Deakes but cant be certain, hence my trying to find his marriage to Helen/Ellen Hales.

Chrystine.
Have you found any of the children in 1901 or 1911. If their mother died in India chances were they would have been sent back to relatives in England.
What were their names? (presuming the surname is Deakes.)

Im sorry, I did add a post afterwards, Im a bit rusty and was thinking ahead of myself. The birth was in Malta 1895. His regiment was the 1st Battalion Staffordshire Regiment.
I have looked through army marriages on this site , I have found all his childrens births. Eldest child 1895 Malta next 1897 Cairo. Next 1899 India, last 1900 India. his wife died 1900 India. I have looked on Fibis without any luck have looked at BMDs in England, dont know were else to try.

Hi yes I believe this is George Deakes. I am trying to find his marriage to a Helen or Ellen Hales( widow, ) his eldest Child was born in 1895 in Malta, I was expecting to find his marriage sometime between 1891 and 1895, but cant find. it doesnt seem to have taken place but the childs birth says he is a child of the marriage. I wonder how likely it might be for them not to have married, civillians dont seem to have any trouble saying that they are married when they were not. I want to find who his father was and his second marriage to my grandmother is unclear.

Does anyone know why I have a army birth certificate for a child born 1895 in Malta, but instead of having mothers maiden name as normal birth certs. it just says that he is a child of the marriage of Pte George Deakes and Helen Hales Widow. I have tried for ages to find a marriage for them but have had no luck. I really need to find this to try to verify who I think his father is. hope someone can explain.
