It might come to that lol, but in the meantime I just checked a directory entry, albeit for 1906, and it's 'sort of' explained something...but more complications than ever lol...I will have to send you the story ;-)

hmmm, you could do with getting a look at those street directories and electoral rolls for both of those areas.

I wonder if anyone from those record offices would do a look up for you in the street directories?

It's a bit of a long story SRS lol, he could be in Grimsby ( where he was in 1911) or he might be in Maidstone where he was in 1924..it's the missing years in between that would be so interesting to find.

That's a shame Rose...

What area are you looking for?

Would he be in a trade/street directory - that may also pinpoint an address?

The 1921 to see if my elusive grandfather is listed, and if so, where was his birthplace.....then I can get working on that massive massive MASSIVE brickwall :-P

It's a long time to have to wait for the 1921!!

I would like to see 1921 and 1931 census records. Having gone back a lot, I've been tracing some of the families going forward, and would like to see where they lived.

Teresa, i was lucky enough to find a site which had part of the 1831 census records for Maghera, ireland where my ancestor came from but couldn't find him :(

I think he'd already moved to Scotland as he married there in 1831!

I would have settled for his parents but again no trace :(

Rose, did you find him on the electoral roll?

Wisechild, tell me about it, my Nan's grandad went to sea. I have no idea when or where he died as he was a mariner. I can't find his wife either.

The 1921 to see what my grandfather was up to 'wife' wise, and I really wish there was an 1831 census which could prove a link between my gt gt grandfather and someone with the same surname living nearby.

Ireland Census records before 1901...to find out where my Gt Gt Grandparents Daniel Brady and Mary Murphy were born!

Daniel died 1894 in the Workhouse in Dublin but no idea when Mary died.

Catholic marriage between Frances Dunn & Walter How in Sunderland about 1810. Been trying to find these 2 for 20 years, but both seem to have died before 1841 & to make matters worse, he was a seaman, so in theory they could have married/died anywhere.
