I would like some help researching James Prew. In 1841 census he was aged 60 living with Mary his wife and daughters Anne and Sarah. He was an excise man. I have traced onward from his son Henry but would love more info on James. I cannot trace further back. Help please. Susan

Sue, two things to remember about the 1841: relationships are not shown and ages were often rounded down to the nearest 5.

Do you have Ann or Sarah's marriage certs to confirm their father's name?

None of the above were born in Staffordshire.

On Thursday, aged 65,Mr James Prew,Officer of Excise,Bond-street in this town, deeply regretted by his family and friends. His death was awfully sudden. He retired to rest in his usual state of health, was seized with a fit of apoplexy and in twenty minutes was a corpse.

I don't know where you find them Mo but that is a real gem.

His address in 1841 (Queen St, Lichfield) was very close to where my maternal grandmother was born in 1885.
