LOL! I'm glad I'm not the only one who saw those,Andy!

Although why I went looking in the first place is a poser. Probably bored....

Correct me if I'm wrong but I think Ancestry 1911 Census was completed in India. If this is so, it might explain some poor transcription given the poor handwriting one has to decipher and unfamiliar names & places.

Bit of a pointless rant really, like going onto the other site and complaining about slow performance on the GR site.

Hi Glitter, Sorry it's my weird sense of humour re the phantom reporter.

I can't tell if they report Ancestry because

A) it shows Ancestry in a good light
B) It shows Ancestry in a poor light
C) just because it mentions Ancestry

Personally at the moment i think the various sites compliment each other as they offer lots of different records so i can't see why mentioning Ancestry causes people to report it.

Not sure why it makes GR look good

They do not transcribe anything

Rant mode.

I was looking at a record on Ancestry today and the occupation was so badly mangled it was laughable. The original form was quite clear and anyone with any sense would have known exactly what the correct words where.

I then spent sometime going through a list and found among others

Practitioner
Primitive
Institute
Post Office
Provisioner
Private means
Pianoforte

All have been transcribed as a certain illegal profession of great antiquity.
None of the originals are that difficult to read and must call into doubt the standard of transcribing on the website. Surely some common sense can be used by the people doing the work.

I submitted corrections for each of them so at least Ancestry will know about them.

Thank you for readind

Rant over.

Andy
