My Gt Grandad was born in 1885.
His Mother was around 16 and didn't stay with his Father.
She later married and he took her Husbands surname, but to be able to trace my tree i need to find is real Birth name.
Can anyone Help ?

Thanks

Trying to find his father is almost impossible.
Maybe a bastardy order?

Look on freebmd for his birth, although if his parents weren't married, its probably only registered in his mothers maiden name.

Does he have a middle name? That may give some clues to the father. As allotment says, look for a baptism. Its possible that the father was named on that.

His birth should be registered in his mums maiden name that you can get from her marriage .

Surely though Gt grandads surname will be the same one that his mum later married in ?? or is it his father you are looking for??

His real birth name is the one under which his birth was registered
