Are there passenger records (anywhere) which would show families leaving Ireland and them entering Scotland.

Trying to pin point when my Irish ancestors arrived.

Many thanks
Debra

Dont think so Debra..............it was just a hop across the Irish Sea. Most were accounted for on the census as being of Irish Origin, hence the approx migration figures. Around the time of the potato famine 1841 there was a huge exodus into Scotland, a lot of the Irish settling on the West coast where they disembarked, a lot of them in a pretty poor state by all accounts.

Thanks Ann

Problem I cant't find them in Ireland and then they don't appear in the UK Census until 1861 but record birth dates of the 1850s and earlier in English & Scottish counties but can't find any birth records - the brick walls continue!

Debra, if born in Ireland, civil registration for births began in 1864.

You could try posting (free) in rootsweb mailing lists and in rootschat to see if anyone can help. And I shall bring forward for you a useful tips thread for Irish research.
