It would appear that RM stands for Royal Montgomery Militia.

I would say that he was likely to be a printer but in the Militia part time.

Is this it? It definitely says printer on image. There are various other people with 'lay' trades but with RM Militia alongside their occupations.

I have 2 "occupation" listings that I think would be helpful to gain elaboration on,
1869 " seargant on artilery staff."
1881" printer.R.M. militia."
Any help?
