I thought it was proberly something like that, the strange thing is he had another child not long after Margaret, and he was called Gibson but i havnt found his baptism, I know this through the will , he could of course be the child of his wife ann, he would have been born about 1783, but she didnt seem to be around and having children until 1799. possibly it being a son made some difference. he and the other children certainly appear to have done very well from Roberts will, only Margaret seems to have been singled out for discrimination. he calls her second marriage to my 4x grandfather as intermarrying with Thomas Smith Jones, goodness knows what that means thanks for your comments regards Chrys.

I would think that Robert is acknowledging being the father of Margaret, his 'natural child' although not married to her mother.

We have a Will of someone who mentions 'my natural son, Thomas DAVIES'.
The father has a different surname.

Thomas is shown with just his mother's name at baptism, but must have known or been told of his father because the father's surname is included as a middle name for Thomas' own son ( born pre. Will )

Afterwards Thomas changed his surname to that of his natural father and kept that name for subsequent generations of descendants.

I have found a baptism in calcutta for a Margaret Gibson, in 1785 saying her yob was 1881, and gives her parents as Robert Gibson and Mary, no surname, I also have the will of said Robert Gibson who when refering to his daughter Margaret calls her his natural daughter. Robert Gibson went on to have children by another women Ann who I presume he married, not found this marriage but she is called his wife in this will. His other children are simply called his son and daughters, does his calling Margaret his natural daughter mean she was likely to have been born out of wedlock.? she is my 4xgrandmother, I have found both of her marriages and the births of her children but daddy couldnt have liked my 4x grandfather as his will stipulated that she and her daughter were to have no contact with him, they were living apart at this time, and this will is 9 pages long and is really hard work to read.but very interesting. just thoughtI would ask your opinions. :-)
