Today, if a member of the services get done by the civil powers, they automatically get put on a charge by the military.

I researched a soldier recently who joined up in 1914 and was discharged after 90 days for committing robbery with violence by the civil powers. He spent 1 month in jail and then rejoined in 1915.

Alot of soldiers deliberately got themselves arrested by the civvy police knowing full well they would get discharged as a result.

I have had this with my Grandfather. Sent of for his records from the coldstream guards. He caused a fight and wrecked the barracks bar. sent to wandsworth prison for a short while. :-D

Thanks everyone, I think it must have been quite serious and he was indeed very lucky as he was imprisoned and a civil power was involved.

Misconduct could be anything from answering an officer back - to being drunk on duty.

He was very lucky, many young men were never discharged and were Shot At Dawn for some very minor misdemeanours.

Does it not give any type of reference

It says on there that he was discharged for misconduct, but don't say what he did, is there somewhere i can search and find out what he did to deserve that. :-0
