I would concur with Adeline's suggestion

I have seen btp as 'both of this parish'

The L and B, if they are found in the marriage register could show whether the couple married by Licence or Banns.

Maybe you need the help of an expert! I suggest a church minister or the nearest genealogist - the nearest archives centre will employ one I imagine.

Thanks Jan, I had looked there before posting but nothing seems to explain exactly. Will keep trying. Appreciate your help.

In the Kent, England, Tyler Index to Parish Registers, 1538-1874, I can see that the entries 'bap.' and 'bur' stand for baptism and burial. But I don't understand what (b.t.p. L) or (b.t.p. B) stand for. Can anyone help?

Many thanks in advance.
