Hi all,

Could SKP please help me, does anyone know if a child born in Scotland in the late 1940s to early 1950s that would have subsequently be adopted have been registered as born to the birth mother prior to the adoption, im pretty sure that in England and Wales they are always registered to the birth mother first but wasnt sure if Scottish law was the same?

Thanks

Nicky

All births are registered in the name of the woman who bore the child. Unless, of course, she gives birth in secret somehow and abandons the child immediately

If this wasn't the case, the whole system would be a mockery.

Scotland opertate the same life event registration system as England/Wales and Ireland regardless if adoption takes place at a later date.

If your cousin knows her birth name, of course she can get a copy of the cert - she can simply purchase it from the GRO.

Adoption Laws may differ, but birth registration is universal
