If he commited suicide there is a possibilty there was an inquest to rule out foul play or was assisted,,,,,,,so again a local newspaper may have carried out a report.

Hi Vicky/ Carole before ringing or traipsing round the cemeteries it might be easier to find the obituary in the local paper. This will give the details of the funeral and where the deceased was buried. This might involve a call to the local library but as it is a suicide you might find out more information from the newspaper about the circumstances. -jl

I've often wondered about this. I know my grandfather committed suicide in 1945 but I know that he was buried in the cemetery beside his first wife. I've been meaning to buy his death certificate to see if, perhaps the fact that it was suicide was covered up,

Hi Joan,
Thank you also for replying how very sad that you have several suicides in your tree.

Unfortunately in 1935 suicide was considered a sin and a criminal offence. (The Suicide Act 1961 changed that in England.) As a result of that it is possible that your family member may have ended up being buried in the unconsecrated ground section in the public cemetery closest to where he died. I can only suggest that you contact that cemetery to see whether they have a record of the burial.

Good evening all,

Can anyone please help us or point us in the right direction our family member sadly commited sucide whilst ill in the quarter of April, May, June 1935. Eli Pullan was Born 1878 and married in 1905 to Deborah Almond also from Blackburn, Lancashire. Poor Eli died aged 57 years in 1935 what we would like to know is if anyone could kindly help us to find out where he was buried.

Any ideas please.

Vicky & Carole. :-(
