Thanks again Annielaurie, yes I found Noah who as far as I know is not related, there was quite a bit about him in various newspapers.

It would have to be a guess at what regiment William might have been in so I may not be able to pursue that I don't think.

No medals for a Fishlock on Ancestry for the right period - well there's one for a Noah but it's noted in the roll that he died.

Could have been in the Crimea but had no medal entitlement. Have researched someone recently who was briefly there but soon invalided home so he wasn't entitled to medals. To find anything on him at Kew you would have to know his regiment.

Hi annielaurie, sorry for not replying sooner. I don't know for certain he was in the Crimea, but I am taking it from this passage in a book found online, ( a while back but have just remembered it and thought I would try and find out more)

"to old Chiswick Church and the graveyard where Loutherbourg lies underneath the most perfectly orotund of inscriptions, to the ferry where old wrinkled Fishlock recalled the Crimea in August 1914,"

Old wrinkled Fishlock is my gt gt grandfather :) who died 1917, (his son ran the ferry at Chiswick so I am certain it is him)

What makes you think he served in the Crimea? What was his name? Any idea of regiment?

Have a look on FindMyPast for any discharge papers for him. Also, have a look on Ancestry at the Medal Rolls.

Officer or other ranks?

Two guides to start you off on what is available at Kew. Also check out the related guides given on the pages.

Hi annielaurie, not sure really, have found a reference that suggests my gt grandfather fought in the Crimea so just wondered what records might apply :-)

Which records? Surviving service records are now online along with medal rolls for the Crimea. Have looked at numerous Muster Rolls for the Crimea at Kew which are very interesting and informative.
