And would I get a will if i sent off for it? I HAVE RECEIVED THIS COPY.

Many Thanks

Try this link:

http://www.justice.gov.uk/courts/probate/copies-of-grants-wills

"What is a Grant of Representation?

A grant of representation is a document issued by the Court which enables the person(s) named in it to deal with the assets and belongings ['estate'] of the deceased. It allows the money in banks, building societies etc. to be collected, property to be sold or transferred and debts to be paid. There are three types of grant of representation:

•Probate: granted to the executors named in the Will

•Letter of Administration [with Will]: granted to someone other than an executor when the deceased left a valid Will, and

•Letters of Administration: granted when the deceased did not leave a Will.

All these documents give the same authority to administer the estate. "

I'm assuming you mean in the UK. The site directs you to the National Archives if probate was granted pre1858.

Yes, you can send off for it with the details you have already found yourself on the Wills and Probate list, and you will get whatever can be found, including one copy of the will if there was one.

The fee is £6 for whatever they find, whether just letters of administration or a wlll as well.

The address is correct, you just need to print off and complete the form given to that address.

"I know the details of the Grant - how do I get the copies I want?

Once you know when and where a grant issued, you can have copies of the grant and the Will (if any). You may order copies in person at First Avenue House or any District Probate Registry and some Sub-Registries.

Or you can complete form PA1S and send it to:

Postal Searches and Copies Department
Leeds District Probate Registry
York House
York Place
Leeds
LS1 2BA "

Good luck

I believe you probably have this info from the Probate Calender already:

Name: Matthew Bainbridge
Probate Date: 5 Aug 1920
Death Date: 12 Jun 1920
Death Place: Durham, England
Registry: Durham

Bainbridge, Matthew of The Aged Miners' Homes Shincliffe Colliery County Durham died 12th june 1920 .Administration Durham 5th August to Mary Jane Bainbridge widow. Effects £479 14s 2d.

The fact that it's administration, rather than probate, might indicate there was no will.
