Thanks everybody for your answers.
Seems like standard membership is the way to go for me

Most people have standard membership - to use the boards and PM facility, and maintain their GR trees.

For research, there are far better options than GR - notably Ancestry and FMP

Free members can build /update tree + reply to messages received, and that is that. They cannot send messages (unless it is a reply) and cannot view another member's tree.
Standard gets everything except search recprds, which you can do on a pay per view basis. Standsrd is definitely worthwhile, but Platinum is not worth the extra for most members.

If you look at paragraph 6 of the Terms and Conditions (link at thr foot of any page on the site) it tells you in detail what you can do as a free member or as a standard member.

Free members can update trees but not post on the boards, they can reply to emails.

I have decided not to get the platinum again, i have got the standard instead, and for the standard membership, i can still work on my tree on here, and use the messge boards, plus contact other members, but even before i renewed again with the standard sub, i could still use my tree on here, it's just the forums and contacting other members that you cant do.

Evening all.
My subs are shortly due & i have decided not to sign back on to the platinum membership but have a trial with a couple of the other sites.
What i want to know is if i dont join will i still be able to see & add on to my tree? or if i get the standard membership what do i get for that?
