Thank you all so much for your help.
For the record, George Bailey Mundy was one of 8 known children and their father George Mundy was also a Bank Manager of the Wiltshire and Dorset Bank.
George Bailey (widowed after a relatively short time) had three known children, Bessie, George Howard and Ernest, none of whom had any children.

They lived above the Bank in the 1891 and 1901 census's which was 42 Market place....it does not seem to be on the 1911 census so maybe the branch moved?

Typical quote:
http://netk.net.au/BridesInTheBath/BridesInTheBath7.asp:
HERBERT MUNDY, examined by Mr. BODKIN
I am an auctioneer living at Westbourne Gardens, Trowbridge, Wiltshire. I had an elder brother, George Barclay Mundy, who died when he was about sixty-six years old. He was manager of a bank at Warminster, and he retired shortly before his death. He left two children, George Howard Mundy and Bessie Constance Annie Mundy. My nephew, George, and I were the executors under his will. Bessie benefited to the extent of £2500 by his will, and that sum was invested in trust securities. She lived at home with her father up to the time of his death. When her father died she would be about twenty-five years of age.

Maybe Barclay was a mistranscription?

Carol

Thank you all, I have all this information, if this is the family of George Barclay/Bailey Mundy.
Trying to find where 'Barclay' came from in the reports.

MarieCeleste

MarieCeleste Report 8 Apr 2012 18:46

According to court reports of the time her full name was Elizabeth Annie Constance Mundy.

It appears Smith was a serial bigamist who underwent several "marriages" to get his hands on women's money.

There doesn't seem to be anyone searchng George Bailey/Barclay Mundy on the trees

jax

jax Report 8 Apr 2012 16:43

Have you tried the search trees to see if anyone else is researching this family?

Carol

Carol Report 8 Apr 2012 16:21

It is 100 years this year since Bessie Mundy was murdered in the bath by her husband Henry Williams (George Joseph Smith).
Although no connection with my Mundys has been found so far I have been researching the family.
In the various reports of proceedings Bessie's father is named as George Barclay Mundy of whom I can find no trace. I do have a George Bailey Mundy (who has a daughter Bessie and son George Howard)with brothers Herbert and Frank all mentioned in the proceedings.
Has anyone any information on George (Barclay/Bailey) Mundy?
I have census details from 1941 to 1901 if anyone interested.
