hi all ,
is there a site , something like the KENT AND SUSSEX WEALD , which covers bournemouth in hampshire . i'm trying to find the birth of my husbands grandmother ,who has given bournemouth as her place of birth . i and a niece have been through all the birth records and cant find her ,think this is our last hope . iris

What sort of date is it and can you give her name ?

Bournemouth is in Dorset

There could be a number of reasons why you cannot find the birth

Parents not married so registered in mothers name

given first name changed for what ever reason

Place of birth incorrect

Lied about age

mistranscription of surname

elizabethk, her name (maiden) was maude ellen amos b abt 1881(1901c said she was born bournemouth hampshire ).

I am not picking her up on the 1901 . can you post the details.

If you have her fathers name we may be able to place her on some census's

born 1881 YOUR Maude must have been registered, think you need to work back from her marriage record with her age and dads name .

Not seeing a marriage to Mathew Gobey

I dont know if this tree on ancestry is correct or not but nothing is tying up as far as I can see

She never married and this is her death

all that i typed just went , so lets try again . jax is right ,that is her death ,and she and mathew gobey never married , but they did have 10 children together, we dont know who her parents are ,which is why we are on this search .this is all the info we have on her

1919 on alberts birth cert she has the middle name of alice.
1920 north park cottages , bletchingley(alberts death cert) housekeeper (domestic)
1921 was living at 57, alderstead cottages ,chaldon.(ediths birth cert)

1941 at time of death was living with daughter edith at 57,prioy road ,tonbridge ,kent ....cause of death ,pernicous anaema...certified by g w thurlow ,m.r.c.s .

cant find a birth record /was her birth reg
our niece thinks her mother was irish ,which makes it even harder to find info .if she is right...

Re http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,187582.0.html perhaps just as Maude (2nd)'s birth was not registered, it is possible, unfortunately, that the birth was not registered of Maude Ellen Amos.

Maude's name is in at least three public trees in ancestry - one of them being yours, Iris?

From that "rootschat" thread it appears that the Amos's may have been travellers/hawkers and from my experiences currently tracing this group of people I have found they were inclined not to marry or register their children (and avoid the census' if possible !!) but they did usually baptise their children-either in the mothers name or the fathers :-)

thank you all very much for trying to help , but i think i shall have to draw a line under her for now .... perhaps in a few years it might be easier (with luck). iris
