Surprised more hasn't been made of the increase in the price of certs obtained from the local register offices from £9 to £10 at the start of April.
Don't think they'll be reducing prices anytime soon.

The petition is not going anywhere even if it did attract enough signatures, as it won't happen until the mothballed project to complete digitalization is given further funding.

I read somewhere that Dove was well over 50% complete before funding ran out, so there is, possibly, some hope for the future, but not in the current economic climate.

Its been done before. Dont wish to be a cold fish but really dont think there any chance to alter the status quo

The Dove project that was to add mmn to birth GRO refs was shelved as too costly.

The BMDS are on microfiche so get a copy involves the same procedure whichever way the copy is made. They have to cover their costs of staff that do this work.

The danger could be in them saying its too costly to US to supply old BMDS for family research

Members may be interested in signing up to a petition :- http://epetitions.direct.gov.uk/petitions/1792 regarding copies of birth, marriage and death certificates for genealogical purposes.

At present only a certified copy of the register is allowed to be issued at a cost of £9.25 per certificate. In Ireland an uncertified copy is obtainable for only 4 euros so this petition may be the way to change our legislation and allow uncertified copies in the UK as well, enabling us to get certificates at a lower cost.

The petition is open until 12 August but only has 6377 signatures as at 27 March.
