Many of you may know this poem!
(I came across it when looking through some old journals of Tunbridge Wells FH Society. It was submitted by a member from Crowborough in 2003)

Strangers in a Box

Come look with me inside this drawer
In this box I've often seen
At the pictures, black and white,
Faces proud, still and serene

I wish I knew these people,
These strangers in the box.
Their names and all their memories
Are lost among my socks.

I wonder what their lives were like.
How did they spend their days?
What about their special times?
I'll never know their ways.

If only someone had taken time
To tell who, what, where and when!
These faces of my heritage
Would come to life again.

Could this become the fate
Of the pictures we take today?
The faces and the memories
Someday to be passed away?

Take time to save your stories!
Seize the opportunity when it knocks!
Or someday you and yours
Will be Strangers in the Box

I think we have all been in situations where we would love to have answers when looking at old photographs.

Enjoy,
Andy

Thanks for sharing.

If only they had names/dates on the back.

how very true

I am archivist for a local group and people keep giving me photos. I often know who or when or what or where but rarely all four! Usually only all four when I feature in the photo!!!

If only they were labelled how much easier and less frustrating would it be.

Funnily enough I've just been reading through some of my old saved word documents and this poem was one of them. I haven't looked at it in ages and then up pops your thread with the same poem just minutes later.

Not seen that one before, but pleased to say over the last year have been writing on the back of all my old photoes.

Found some that were friends of parents and no idea who they were so have discarded, do not want children to get confused and try to add them to our family like I did.
