Can anyone tell me when people started getting marriage certificates in Scotland and what did people get to prove they were married before this? |

Scottish BMDS started in 1855 before then it was parish records the same as the rest of the UK |

It was the custom before 1855 couples married in the bride or groom home,anyones home or even a public house which was paid and signed for,,,so proof would have been given......plus an entry into the parish register. |
