My gt.grandma had a child about four years before marrying gt. grandfather.I knew the child, called Thomas, was born c.1865 and I could trace him through the censuses from 1871 on up to his death in 1930 but could never find his birth. Then, while looking at workhouse records for another family member, I discovered gt. grandma had entered the workhouse the day Thomas was born (15.1.1865) and he was baptised 11 days later in a sort of job lot of workhouse babies and named Walter! No wonder I couldn't find him. |
