Can anybody tell me what the registration district would be for a death in the 1950's in Cheshunt, Hertfordshire please.
Is it possible that it would have been Edmonton, Middx.
Thank you

Andrew

It might be Ware - changed in 1939

Thanks lancashireAnn.

Shame really, because the best match I have is for Edmonton.

Have to keep looking.

Thank you very much for the help.

Could this person have died in a hospital and not at home?

did you find the match on freebmd or a subscription site which perhaps has more transcriptions?

Jax

This person died in White Webbs Nursing Home. I have been told that
this is or was in Cheshunt, Herts. However when I checked on Google
it comes up as Enfield, Middx now.
This would then make my 'match' of Edmonton look better.

LancashireAnn

I found the 'match' on Ancestry (BMD)

The one problem I have is that I have been given the same location by 2
different people but one is saying it was in 1950 the other in 1958.
Not wanting to spend money on a certificate unnecessarily, I have been trying to narrow down the choice.
The other problem is that it is a very, very common name.
They always are!!

Sorry not to get back to you both yesterday but past my bedtime.
Thank you all for taking the time to reply.

Edmondton was incorporated into Enfield district in 1965

also remember the major county boundary changes of 1970's so for many streets names the county address changed

LancashireAnn,

But previously Enfield (at least part of) was part of Edmonton. I have a
marriage in 1964 with a registration district of Edmonton, but it actually
took place in the centre of Enfield - I know because I was there.

Think I will send for the Edmonton cert and hope I haven't wasted my
money.

Thanks for all the help, much appreciated.

There is an URL that lists all the descriptions, but I can never remember it, so what I do is go to FreeBMD and get a hit in Edmonton - say for the death in 1930q1 of a John:

Deaths Mar 1930 (>99%)
Adams John 73 Edmonton 3a 613

Now click on the "Edmonton" link, then the more info "here" link to see a mini history of the places in the Rego District.

snap mgnv - except I usually use the surname Smith

googling the district name with 'genuki can work as well
