There were a number of Checkley families living in and around Sheffield in 1901 and 1911. Only the birth certificate for William will resolve who his parents were. Most unlikely to have been George William and Fanny I would have thought.

lesleymargaret Report 18 Apr 2012 15:25

Thanks for your help it is definately George William, and not William George I need to get in touch with friend to see if they have birth cert for William as that would solve the problem of whether it was same family as that in the 1911 census.

What happend to Williams parents I cannot be sure unless they lied and had more than one child and he was in the hospital will try and find out more information and be in in contact again.

Getting back to the William Checkley that you found in the 1911 census.

William is a patient, one of 586, not an inmate, in the Sheffield Union Hospital in Fir Vale, Sheffield. The census indicates that his birthplace is unknown.

How have you associated him with George William and Fanny Checkley who are living at 106 Woodseats Rd ?

Have you got a copy of this birth certificate to establish who his parents were?

Gosh Jonsey

how quick you were, does it give any details of the husband - eg is it George William born 1880.

Anybody any ideas why they would leave a child behind or coutd it be a different Checkley family.

Hi everyone,

I have Ancestry but not world wide subscription 1911 Census Fanny (could be Norris) and George William (1880) living in Sheffield with daughter May 1 child 0 died.

A William Checkley born 1905 Sheffield is in workhouse his parents were Fanny and George William (same ages at those on Census) could they be the same family and parents lied.

Fanny disappears cannot find a death but Ancestry mentions a Fanny Checkley on passenger list but I don't have access to that.

Wonder what everyone thoughts are, I am out in a couple of hours for most of the day so please accept my apologies if I don't answer straight away

Any ideas.

Thanks

Lesley
