Hi,

I am trying to trace my ancestors who came to England from Russia in 1914. I found my great grandmother and grandfather's grave in North London and it has two inscriptions in hebrew. I believe they might contain details such as dob and hebrew names - possibly even their fathers' names.

I have tried to replicate the inscription but I may have got the odd character wrong! If anyone can help translate, I would be very grateful.

Ok, it looks like the hebrew hasn't saved when I sent the message - but if anyone can help, please contact me and I can email the inscription.

Google translate offers a Hebrew to English translation but of course you would either need Hebrew characters on your computer or you could try to copy and paste the Hebrew characters you have into the appropriate box on Google translate.

My OH reads Hebrew 'though he always claims he is a little rusty.

If you want him to take a look then please PM me but he won't be able to do it for a few days as he is away.

I am sure he wont mind me volunteering him ;-)

Thank you all for your constructive and positive comments. I really appreciate your help and advice. It is nice to be part of a warm, caring and considerate group who share a common interest and are willing to support each other.

Reggie - I'm sure you mean well, but your comments are rather negative and offputting for someone like me who has only posted 6 times previously and isn't familiar with the protocol. Also, I am a teacher/mother of two and do not have the time to check into this website as regularly as you clearly do. Please try to be aware of others' feelings - I'm sure you wouldn't want to put people off from using this website.
