Why can't I find my relatives?

I am really new to this, (only started last night) and am trying to piece together my great grandfathers life, he was married twice, and moved at some point between the 1881 and 1901 census, but I can't find either him, his wife or his children (or his father) on the 1891 census. Please can someone give me some idea as to why that would be? Thanks!

Possibly mistranscribed. Try using just the first name of a child with year and place of birth and parents' first names.

He is probably there, but the name may be mistranscribed.

If you would like to put the name on here someone will help look, or you can try putting in his first name birth year and that of his wife on the census search and see if it is just the surname that has been mis-spelled...and try it the other way entering just the surname.

Also depends on which site you are using for your census search

You can get different results from Findmypast and Ancestry etc
