The Mona Taylor Home has been in Morpeth for years, my son was born there in 1965 & was a fairly old building then, the Thomas Taylor Home was a home for the Mentally Ill/retarded, later this became a nursing home. it was two seperate buildings both on one level with staff houses in the grounds. I cetainly remember the Children's home as I fostered children short term from there, this was as late as the 1970's, most of these records will be sealed as someone mentioned, not much else I can add.

The childrens' home you are interested in was certainly in Morpeth. It was still in use when I was a child, although I can't remember when it stopped being used as a childrens' home There was acompanion home near Mum's house where very young chidren lived. It is now a private dwelling. Records of Mona Taylor are housed at the Northumberland Archives,Woodhorn, Ashington. There may be a bar on opening records for a certain number of years as they are sensitive. Give the archives a ring I'm sure they will clarify things for you.

Thank you everyone, honestly people on this site are great.
I have done a National Archives search but their records are fairly limited.
The Childrens Society on Bower Bank Morpeth is proving to be a hard one though. When I did a Google search on that it appeared to be in Rothbury, (morpeth postal district)
Thank you Moira, if your Mum I would be interested to hear if she remembers anything. Usually at that age they tend to remember more from the past than the present! :-)

I was born in the Mona Taylor (1944). There was a companion home called the Thomas Taylor. I think they were fairly new when I was born. Next time I see Mum I'll ask if she knows anything about them, but at 90 her memory is erratic. Good luck.

If you click on 'search the database' and then enter Mona Taylor in the 'hospital name' box there is one result.
