Does anyone know if a person was named as Catherine on their birth certiiicate would they be able to call themselves Kathleen on their marriage cert Birth would be 1921 Marriage would 1947 .I know we could send off for birth and marriage certs but trying to cut down on paying £18.00 for certs |

Well, they can call themselves what they like - my grandfather for example dropped his first name entirely! But he did use his middle name. |

It could well be that one or other was mis heard and in particular marriage certificates are often made out by a clerk prior to the ceremony and most often would not be checked by the couple. |

We are sure the marriage details are correct and reports from a family member that she was about 7 years older than him gave approx year of birth but we cannot find her under Kathleen at that time. She definitely was born in Liverpool that we are 100% sure of that information |

I would only send for something you know to be correct, or are able to confirm/reject when you see it. How would you have any idea if a birth cert was the right one? If you are sure of the marriage, get that. |
