He also changed from Alfred to Albert. Maybe Emily re-married.

He also went from (if the above 1911 is the family) a Grocery Assistant to an Electrician in 4 years. However good soldier and mentioned in despatches.

Alfred joined the Royal Engineers in 1915.

His next of kin is given as his mother Emily. His address at the time of enlisting was 29a Deacon Road and occupation given as Electrician.

He later married in 1917 at Acton to a Marion Gertrude Guy but for some reason the marriage details give his surname as GILLING although this has been underlined for some reason. He had the same regiment/soldier no as when he joined up.

Can i ask please, for someone to look at the marriage certificate of William Hempston and Elsie Violet Appleton 2a 1167.Dated 25th December 1915 at St.Lukes Church, Parish of St.Lukes Kingston on Thames, Surrey.
All i can read of Williams occupation is Assistant. As i have just found their Grandaughter, and she does not know anything about her Hempston family.
