try searching the Lancashire record office catalogue - just google lancat - let us know if you find him there

othwise as Jan says google for Merseyside police. I do have an email address but it is 5 years old so could have changed. They were very helpful when I contacted them (we no luck as many records were destroyed but you may be lucky)

Can anyone advise where the above are located. My great great grandfather is shown as being a policeman on his marriage cert in 1866 so any info would be welcome
