I was so happy to find this site last week and to uncover where a long-searched for branch of the family had disappeared to from the UK after 1848.

Well done to the volunteers of the South Australian Genealogy & Heraldry Society for providing these databases.

like me ....

.............. one lot went out in the 1840s

his niece and nephew and families went out in the mid-1850s

5 of my own first cousins went out in the late 1950s/mid-1960s, with their families ................ all were female though so they didn't take my maiden name out with them

Those 5 now have at least 100 descendants in Oz, at last count, and they are spread all over OZ

Who knows how many descendants there are from the early ones?

The first one and his nephew went to SA , the niece to NSW :-D

The nephew and some of his children and grandchildren then moved on to California.

"so they tanned his hide when he died Fred and that's it hanging on the shed"
- old Oz family history song borrowed by Rolf Harris

Sure, I have lots and lots of rellies in Oz going back to Van Diemens Land (though none was a convict some were squatters). Right now I have first cousins and such too. Its a good place, especially take off (*). It is one of those trees full of itchy feet - no wonder my GGF, GF had a great stamp collection!

(*) Leavin' home, out on the road
I've been down before
Ridin' along in this big ol' jet plane
I've been thinkin' about my home
But my love light seems so far away
And I feel like it's all been done
Somebody's tryin' to make me stay
You know I've got to be movin' on

Oh, Oh big ol' jet airliner
Don't carry me too far away
Oh, Oh big ol' jet airliner
Cause it's here that I've got to stay

Goodbye to all my friends at home
Goodbye to people I've trusted
I've got to go out and make my way
I might get rich you know I might get busted
But my heart keeps calling me backwards
As I get on the 747
Ridin' high I got tears in my eyes
You know you got to go through hell
Before you get to heaven

Big ol' jet airliner
Don't carry me too far away
Oh, Oh big ol' jet airliner
Cause it's here that I've got to stay

Touchin' down in SYD(ney) town
Feel the heat comin' down
I've got to keep on keepin' on
You know the big wheel keeps
on spinnin' around
And I'm goin' with some hesitation
You know that I can surely see
That I don't want to get
caught up in any of that
Funky shit goin' down in the city

Big ol' jet airliner
Don't carry me too far away
Oh, Oh big ol' jet airliner
Cause it's here that I've got to stay

(apologies to Steve Miller)

Hi All

The South Australian Genealogy & Heraldry Society has recently up-graded their website (GenealogySA) and now includes indexes to the South Australian Births Deaths and Marriages which previously had no on-line presence due to retrictions applied by the South Australian Government. Also they are continually up-grading their Cemetery Indexes and Newspaper Births and Deaths Notices. Access to more detailed information is via a fee payable transcription service.

The website is http://www.genealogysa.org.au/

Hope that this is some help
