google for genealogy software

Most of them have a "trial" one which holds up to 100 names

Not very big, but you can try all of them, so if you decide to spend the money you can choose which one you prefer.

I have been using the freebie ( called paf) available from Family Search. This opertates on windows and I really like but I also have a Mac
I have yet to find any free genealogy programmes to download which is compatible with Apple Mac.... anyone come across one?
