Do you know who has given you access ?

Find their message in your INBOX and open it

You should have a grey bar with who it is from and date etc

Then a white bar - that should show
Access to your tree and then Access to their tree

If Access to their tree has the word VIEW after it then click on VIEW to look at their tree

If you have been given access to someone else's tree you can find it by clicking on "Family Tree" in the dark green bar near the top of the screen, and then clicking on "MY Tree". Near the top of the screen it will give the name of your tree and how many relations you have. Next to that is a small box that says "change". If you click on that it will give you a list of any trees you have been given access to. Just pick off the one you want.

I think what happens is that you get the first message in your inbox but when that person later allows you access to their tree you only get the message via GR and not in your inbox on this site

On the OLD Tree when you open there is at the top right had side of screen

View other tree and a drop down part which shows the trees you have access to

No idea how the NEW tree works

sorry GB yes I deleted...but as you replied

When do you get a message in your inbox saying you have access to a tree then?

recently I've only been getting the message from GR to my home email address that someone has given me access to their tree.

There has been NO pm in my Inbox on here.

I'm afraid I've been guilty of making no response to these people, for the following reasons .....................

they are people I have helped on the boards, with no connections between us ..............

I delete all GR and ancestry, etc, emails immediately after seeing them on the preview on my email, expecting of course to see them in my Inbox on here ............

thus I am unable to know how to contact them !

'Tree shared' messages now appear ONLY in one's e-mail, not in GR's messages inbox

Obviously, another of their 'improvements'!!!!!!

Oh dear!! I also delete all GR messages from my email preview, expecting to see them here...........

I wonder how many I've missed???

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 17 May 2012 19:25

I don't know how many I've deleted over the last few months ...................

............. and I know it is wrong of me after all I've said about being sure to at least acknowledge pms .........

................ but I really am not all that concerned as they are opening trees that I really do not need to see.

I dont look at my emails that often, but I looked today and had been given access to two trees this week....One I had pm'd because she asked to view mine, the other I did'nt recognise the name, it turns out I had helped him in some way in January :-S

Like Sylvia I do not want these trees anyway. depending how I am feeling I will pm them to tell them that we are not related....but if they leave me with the access that is up to them

I do usually contact them to say please close your tree.

But this new change by GR has confused me!

I EXPECT to see all pms showing in my Inbox on here, as that has been the system for so many years.

It has taken me a little while to realise that "opening tree" pms do NOT show up.

I do NOT like opening pms from my email because it means I have to sign in and go through all that palaver.

I wish GR would go back to the old system!!
