Hi Susan
I have checked for mine on census records - Surname CASS, with success - and also been in touch with the Jersey Heritage centre via the web initially ...

http://www.jerseyheritage.org/research-centre/jersey-archive

where I found my great grandmothers birth and christening details. I now have her birth cert.

I have just checked the 1911 for Guernsey and my in laws are there so that might be a start as Jersey should also be in the records on here- jl
