Have a look at this website

It gives details of what was engraved on the medals and I don't think anything personal was put on the Mercantile Marine War Medal.

Also, as far as I know, Merchant Seamen are just that - Merchant Seamen. They don't have different rates like the Royal Navy and privates, corporals etc are Army and Marine ranks.

yes as far as i know he was.a merchant seaman and the medal card was as i put and issued in Holyhead. Why is is differant if a seaman.Thanks for the help

Hi medal card number i have is 287764 this number is next to were it says Certil or Dis. A the Certil has been crossed or signed over it.Has JARRETT JOSEPH. H. RS2 No 350057 if this helps. Thanks

Hi searched war records and my greatgrandfather Joseph Henry Jarrett born Holyhead,Amlwch, got 2 war medals and ribbons in ww1, He got a mercantile medal and and ribbon in ww1 and British medal and ribbon ww1 but it does not say if he was a private or rank on the form, i have brought replica medals and want to ingrave them but dont know what to put as rank on them, Could anyone help do i just not put a rank or did they not put rank when getting a Mercantile medal?
