Hi Susan,
The London Baptism you found is the one I am researching. There were also children born earlier in Warwick to a Job & Elizabeth, but can't find that marriage either. I though it a possibility they may have moved from Warwick to London....I'll keep looking.....
Cheers :-)

Hi Everyone,
Thanks very much for your input.
The family I am researching are from London England in 1700's.
Job jnr was born in 1762 and the other births to the same parents were 1765, 1767 & 1772.
The 2 deaths were in 1787 & 1791.
I have seen the christening records and it is clearly Job.
I'll just have to wait I think for more records to become available.

Many thanks everyone,
Barbara (Australia) :-)

Free bmd has about 90 children born as Job in one quarter of 1838, so it depends what you mean by unusual.

Barbara

It is an unusual christian name and makes you wonder if the person got his name right and should be James Job rather than Job James.

Like the other reply's it's more biblical and would imagine of american origin than English.

Patricia

Do you know place and year of birth for either of your Jobs? There are quite a few on FreeBMD.

Have you looked at the original page, could it be Jas, shortened version of James?

Job as a biblical name will be quite common as are most bibilical names. The only book most people owned was a bible.

Thanks guys. I thought as much but was hoping for another option.
I will just keep looking...more is being added all the time to the net, so a marriage may pop up eventually, but as you said, they possibly didn't marry.
Thanks again,
Barbara

Job is a name in its own right - Job is the central figure in the Old Testament Book of Job (not too surprisingly). The biblical Job is doing quite nicely, and Satan says to God - course he is, you're protecting him. God says, no, he's a good guy, and just to show Satan, withdraws the protection. Satan then inflicts over 30 chapters-worth of catastrophes on Job, but Job still won't blame God, so God says enough already, and puts things right.

Maybe they were living in sin Barb!
Even back then it happened or if it was before 1837 the Parish records where they married no longer exist.
I've got a few myself that on baptismal records look like a married couple but I can't find a marriage for them.
Oh the joy of genealogy!! ;-)

Help please!!
Does anyone know if Job is a derivative of another christian name.
I can find the birth for a Job JAMES, parents Job & Elizabeth and 2 deaths which could be father & son but no marriage for the parents anywhere.
I have found other births to the same parents as well.
Any suggestions greatly appreciated.
Barbara :-)
