I've led a sheltered life so far just working with Scotlands People and GR. Even the Community area is new to me after several years as a member! |

People's sources vary widely Malcolm. Those of us who try to help out tend to have a sub for FMP or Ancestry. Roughly speaking, these give access to BMD's up till 2006, plus census for England, Wales & Scotland. If someone has a upgraded membership they can access passenger lists, London parish records, probate records and more. |

Ancestry only gives free access to the 1881 census, which is free anyway on the LDS site |

I would not be without Ancestry just for census alone. The IGI was also really useful when I first started researching, although I do not like the new version. |

Pardon my ignorance but what is FMP? I wouldn't mind paying for a site as I do with S.P. which is excellent, however i'd like to be sure it's recommended by others. I'm also not sure what the LDS site name is, and is IGI related to that? (can you believe I don't know all this after seven years? lol) |

FMP is Findmypast. It is similar to Ancestry, but does have some variations in the records it provides I believe, so worth checking out and comparing. |

Okay, that's clearer now, Thank You. I'll look at FMP and hope that those constant popups which make Ancestry very irritating aren't there too. |

You can easily eliminate pop-ups by downloading the appropriate software to your computer |

It's quite remarkable how isolated i've been over the past few years due to concentrating all my study in Scotlands People. (I've been living like a Hermit - idea for a new nickname there) I have only just discovered the Free deaths records here on GR and have several interesting links in London. |
