Are you saying he was adopted? he doesnt need his original birth cert as he would no longer be connected legally to his birth parent/s.

He would have an new adoption cert issued in his adopted name

If adopted he can always access his adoption file. But as Shirley says, no adopted person needs their original birth cert.

There will be an adoption cert for him either way - he needs to ask his parents for it.
If he is not adopted he can obtain his birth cert as normal.

If the scenario is his mum married and he was then adopted by the new husband he would in fact have been adopted by his mum too in her new married name,This happened to a family member who had a child when single and then went on to marry another man she had to adopt her own son in her new married name which happened at the same time . So a married couple with a different surname adopted the child even though the mum was his biological mum Sounds odd but that was how it was done

The same thing though still applies he doesnt need his original birth cert

Just an extra note - if someone is 21 or over, they don't need their mother's (either adoptive or natural) permission or assistance to gain a copy of their own birth certificate. Suggest they could perhaps contact their own local Registrar of BMD's in private and they will advise them how to proceed.

The mother is perhaps withholding information about the birth father for her own reasons, but the son is entitled to what information there is on his own birth certificate.

Good luck with this anyway.

BUT he doesnt NEED his original birth cert for any job interview . Yes he can get it if he knows what his mums name was before she married his stepdad .

He can find the GRO ref for his original birth entry BUT as he was later adopted he may only get a short version anyway

If the mother wasnt married to the father then he may not be named on it anyway,,

he will get a full certificate if he pays £9-25,

By sheer co-incidence just sent for the certs for a friend with the same problem.
Info so interesting.

If the person has a friend who is researcher they should be able to find both entries online. The original, presume if born out of wedlock his name should be under his mothers maiden name. The adopted one would be in the registers at the date of adoption - this is sometimes confusing because it makes the person look like they are born years after they were born.

Would same loads of money if somebody could look up the names for the young man and give him the references. :-D :-D

Angela...........

If the young man in question is still living with his BIRTH mother , his 'adoption' by the lady and her husband would have been what is called a 'Mother's Own' adoption.

No record of this is kept on the GRO index

I fail to understand why the info is needed for the young man to get a job.

If that is the case, what is going to happen to the hundreds of thousands of illegitimate children being born these days when they seek employment

Susanne.........

Finding the references won't save any money - the cert still costs £9.25
