That is a good point with the 14 day free trials. Becoming a member of lostcousins.com is also a good idea. It is free and, among the clear advantages, provides one with just about the most informative family history newsletter going.

Maybe if more of the Platinum members ceased this membership and went for the Basic (around 10.00 now) or Free then GR would possibly sort out some of the more basic problems associated with this site.

I have a very close friend who has Platinum membership and I asked her why she did this and she said when she was looking around at all the other sites GR Platinum was the cheapest. Now in my book cheapest does not equate to best.

She was very new to this Family History lark and soon discovered that a vast majority of the records on here had very little relevance to her family except those from within the UK and even then she had some issues.

I do wish more people would use the 14 day free trials on offer on other sites and then they would have a better idea of which site would suite their research best.

Send them an email and explain you didnt find Platinum any good, so want to downgrade to standard.

I've just cancelled my Platinum membership.

Can't find out how to renew at a standard rate nor how much it costs.

Looks like I'm a gonner :-D :-D
