I'm trying to find the birth record of my Gran's brother but no luck so far. His name was Charles Randall, son of Mary Randall,probably illegitimate, probably born around 1883 in Spetisbury,nr Blandford Forum in Dorset. I've found his marriage to Emily Flora Cooper in 1910 and the births of his son and daughter, Cedric and Irene, and he's there in the 1911 census, a police constable in Salisbury, so why can't I find his birth record. I want to see if a father is recorded as it might give me a clue to my Gran's father---blank on the birth certificate in 1874(Eleanor Bessie Randall).

Hi Andy,
As far as I know, there were five legitimate children---Sarah Lydia, Alfred, Tom, John and Harry. Her husband Thomas Randall died in 1870, then Bessie was born in 1874 and Charles in 1883 when she was about 46. One of my old aunts said that Mary had married one of her late husband's brothers, but another one laughed and said " Nah! She never married again".
