Would anyone who lives or goes near the following places be willing to take a photo of some properties my ancestors lived in for me. If so please send a private message.

Camden Road N7 [is done now]

Portland Rise, Stoke Newington area

Please note that I suggested Josie put this on here as well as chat, I know posting on two boards is not adviseable but I thought in this instance it would widen the chance of Josie finding someone in the right area...members don't always look at all boards.

Have you tried using Google Maps and Street View to see these places?

Some of them will have changed over the years.

I know there is a print option, but it is easier said than done. Tried it and it is difficult to position right as it knocks off a lot, or it has on the ones I have tried. But thanks for the reminder.

Josie - try this method

Go to http://www.streetmap.co.uk/ and do a lookup, say for Sheringham Road.
You get a hit - the URL starts with
http://www.streetmap.co.uk/map.srf?x=535049&y=168933 - the x is the easting and the y the northing.
Now 534049,168933 is the OS grid ref to the nearest metre.
(Yeah, it's a bit ridiculous for a whole street, but they've got to put the arrow tip somewhere.)
There's another grid system - the Landranger - that drops the first digits and replaces them with a magic letter pair (for London, it's TQ) so in the Landranger system, this grid ref is TQ3504968933
To the nearest 100 m, the ref is TQ350689, and to the nearest km, TQ3568

OK, so that's it for the geeky stuff - now go to

Well 220 images is a bit much - try

and there's just 2 in

It's also worth checking the surrounding squares, especially when you're close to the edge as here.

I often upload photos on geograph, it is a great site and you are allowed to download the photos under common license.

Sheringham Road is on there but only as a street view and I wanted one of a property, but as you say it is always worth looking.
